California white sage is the sacred herb of the indigenous peoples of North America. By bundling its leaves, we obtain a plant-based incense used for smudging and clearing negative energies.

The virtues of white sage for purifying your space

This incense helps to purify the environment by attracting positive energies, while providing a pleasant and intense aroma. Among the varieties of sage, we have chosen Salvia apiana, the true white sage from California.

The bundling is done in the same way as in ancient times. The plant is presented in a dry state so that it can be smoked: dried sage, ready to burn at the first flame.

White sage in the Native American purification ritual

Native Americans loved to bring together the four elements for their purification rituals: water, wind, earth, and fire. A shell represents water, the sage herbs represent earth, the burning represents fire, and the smoke represents wind.

These traditions still nourish today's spiritual purification practices. Lit with a specific intention, sage accompanies energy cleansing, ceremonies, or more intimate spiritual moments.

White sage or palo santo: two complementary incenses

White sage offers more intense purifying properties than palo santo. Its herbaceous and slightly pungent scent is clearly distinct from the woody profile of this sacred wood.

For an initial purification, priority goes to sage. Palo santo then complements it for a deeper purification, and it is in this spirit that we have composed our range of white sage and palo santo.

How to burn your white sage stick

  1. Light the end of the stick with a flame, lighter, or match.
  2. Let the flame burn for 10 to 15 seconds.
  3. Extinguish it by blowing gently: the smoke is activated.
  4. Let the smoke circulate freely: you are thus purifying every part of the room.
  5. Place the stick on a heat-resistant surface, or hold it in your hand during your moments of meditation.

Do not leave the stick unattended while burning. This precaution accompanies every ritual use of the bundled stick described in our white sage product page.
