Symbol of protection: the Turkish nazar eye bead in macramé wall decoration

To protect themselves from the evil eye, many people wear a Turkish eye as jewelry, a keychain, or other accessories. This macramé wall decoration with a Turkish nazar eye allows you to hang this symbol in your home or workplace.

The nazar boncuk is a Turkish glass bead in shades of blue and white. For centuries, it has fascinated cultures in the Middle East and the Mediterranean, where it remains a very popular lucky charm.

According to tradition, the Turkish eye protects against the evil eye and attracts good fortune. Amulet, talisman, or simple decorative object: this wall macramé serves as a daily reminder of the desire to ward off negative influences and welcome good luck into your home.

Handwoven macramé: each design is unique

Each piece of this bohemian macramé decor is handwoven by Berber women in Morocco. Handweaving has one simple consequence: no two designs are identical.

Some designs are one of a kind. Once sold, the piece can be recreated in a similar style, but it will never be completely identical.

At Tifinagh Shop, we value this authenticity: each talisman bears the mark of the artisan who made it.

Macramé cord, cotton, and basic knots: how the piece is made

The macramé technique is based on knotting: no loom is used, only threads knotted by hand in a precise order. Most pieces on the market use cotton cord, and occasionally jute twine.

A few basic knots are enough to create a pattern. The square knot, the most common, forms tight, even rows; the half hitch creates diagonal lines that outline an eye.

What the artisan's hand reveals can be seen in the tension of each macramé knot and the spacing between the rows. On many designs, the bottom fringes are worked in braided macramé or left loose: they give the piece its final movement.

Natural wool and easy care for your decoration

This wall decoration is made from natural, chemically untreated wool, giving it a particularly soft feel. For regular care, simply vacuum it without using a rotating brush.

For stains, we recommend hand-cleaning with a damp cloth and mild soap. For more thorough cleaning, dry cleaning is recommended.

Natural wool or cotton cord: what changes on the wall

Cotton cord remains the most common material for this type of work: soft, smooth, and easy to knot. It creates a clean, graphic look that appears slightly cooler.

Natural wool offers something different: slightly fluffy fibers, a softer texture, and a material that absorbs light instead of reflecting it. In practice, when hung on a wall, the design stands out with more warmth against a white or sand-colored background.

Jute, on the other hand, has a raw look, but it remains rough to the touch. Its brown fibers also highlight the blue of the nazar less than wool or cotton.

Where to hang this wall protection

On most wall designs, the threads are knotted around a wooden dowel, ring, or metal circle that serves as a frame. For a round macramé hanging, the diameter of this circle determines the final width of the piece.

According to tradition, the symbol is placed facing the entrance: in a hallway, near the door, or above a desk where you receive guests. What really changes the feel of a room is its position at eye level rather than high up on a wall.

The same design goes by several names. In English, it is known as an evil eye; in the Maghreb, the khmissa, or Hand of Fatima, plays a similar role to the Turkish blue bead.

Creating a bohemian corner around the piece

This piece looks great on its own on a bare wall, but it truly comes to life surrounded by natural materials. A Berber rug on the floor, a leather pouf, or a woven basket echo the same warmth of natural fibers without overshadowing the blue of the eye.

It is best suited for light-colored walls: the blue and white shades stand out clearly against a white, linen, or terracotta background. On an already colorful wall, we recommend leaving some empty space around the piece so it can stand out.

Dimensions and custom personalization

This piece measures 30 cm wide x 35 cm high. If you prefer a more compact size, we also offer the same wall decoration with a Turkish eye in a 25 cm version, better suited to a narrow entryway.

Dimensions, colors, and style can be customized to suit your preferences at no extra cost. To discover other wall protection options, view this wall decoration with a Turkish eye in its full-size version.
