Zanafi Kilim, 3 m x 0.65 m. Untreated wool, reversible flat weave, black and ecru geometric patterns. Handwoven by women of the Zanafi tribe in the Moroccan High Atlas. Unique piece.

Characteristics of the Zanafi Berber Kilim

  • Dimensions: 3 m x 0.65 m, size designed for hallways, entrances, or any narrow passage.
  • Material: Chemically untreated wool. No aggressive products used in manufacturing.
  • Weave: Flat, traditional Berber technique. Reversible, usable on both sides to extend its lifespan.
  • Patterns: Geometric, black and ecru on a neutral background. Hand-drawn and woven, each pattern follows the Zanafi tradition.
  • Unique piece: Impossible to reproduce identically. Each kilim carries the unique character of the artisan who wove it.

What we love about this model

The flat weave, specifically, makes all the difference for a hallway. Less dust trapped than a pile rug. Superior wear resistance in high-traffic areas. And the reversibility doubles its longevity by simply flipping the kilim.

Avoid if you're looking for a machine-washable model: untreated wool requires more care. But that's precisely what gives it its durability over time.

The difference from a Beni Ouarain is the absence of pile and the elongated shape. The Zanafi is made to be walked on, not to sink into.

Minimalist aesthetic, High Atlas heritage

No frills. The geometric patterns remain discreet, legible without overwhelming the space. The neutral ecru background integrates equally well into a minimalist contemporary interior or an older home.

This is not a tourist item. It is a functional product, made using techniques passed down from generation to generation within the Zanafi tribe.

Zanafi Kilim Care

  • Regular cleaning: Vacuum without a rotating brush, regularly to prevent dust accumulation.
  • Small stains: Cold water and mild soap, dabbing without rubbing. Lay flat to dry is mandatory.
  • Complete cleaning: Professional dry cleaning recommended every 2 to 3 years.
  • Hand washing: Possible in cold water, without aggressive products. Hand-woven wool may shrink slightly.
  • Reversibility: Flip the kilim every 6 months to balance wear on both sides.

Designed for cold floors, hallways, narrow passages

3 m x 0.65 m: a size that covers a long hallway without overhanging, without creating a tripping hazard. The flat structure does not form a bulge under doors. Underfoot, it provides a firm surface, neither too rigid nor soft, that stays in place even without an anti-slip mat on smooth parquet.

Also usable in an entrance, kitchen, or as an accent strip in a narrow living room. The format remains understated; it takes up the space it is given.

Manufacturing and Quality

This kilim was woven over several weeks by a Zanafi artisan from the High Atlas. Each pattern created without a machine, knot by knot.

Untreated wool guarantees a long lifespan. Provided the care instructions above are followed, this rug will remain in good condition for several decades.

Tifinagh Shop offers this kilim in custom sizes for other dimensions, at no extra cost.
